I went to a doctor; x-rays confirmed a big toe avulsion fracture. how long should i wear the small boot i was given? what if it feels better sooner?

The boot protects: If it is tender protect it. When it can be moved w/o pain, leave it off.

Fractures: Generally take about 6-8 weeks to heal. You pro pulse off your big toe so best to use that full time. Having said that you should follow up with your treating doc who can base decision on your X-ray findings which we know nothing about,
