Multiple factors: In the absence of any more detail, this could be a existing medical illness such as related to kidney /liver/heart/hormone gland dysfunction. Equally it maybe related to medication side effects like gabapentin, blood pressure meds etc. Needs evaluation by primary doctor/provider

Allergic reaction?: A 19 year old female woke up with swollen face and hands. This could be related to an allergic reaction. Is there any associated rash, itching, breathing difficulty, wheezing, coughing, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea? Those are also symptoms of allergic reaction. Does antihistamine relieve the symptoms? Again, another sign of allergy. Please see PCP or allergist for further evaluation.
