Finger Width: Front of neck: 1) Arthritic pain -take Aleve (naproxen) 2) Scalenus Anticus or thoracic outlet syndrome-but pain should go out the arm also. 3) near the voice box see an EENT doc. 4) If it pulsates run to ER. 5) If it occurs with swallowing let your FP send you to a GI doc or fix your thyroid. In back: Probably early arthritis or an odd disc presentation.
