What is the best way to treat a cramp or spasm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rest, stretch: A cramp/spasm is a temporary shortening of the muscle. The best thing is to stop using the muscle if you can (stop walking if it is a leg cramp for example). Gently stretch the muscle until the cramp resolves. Uterine cramps (with your period) just have to resolve on their own, and ibuprofen can help the pain. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
