I accidentally broke part of my tooth and it was bleeding for a little. my question is should i go to the dentist or is that unnecessary?

Yes: Yes, you should see your dentist. Besides the broken tooth part I don't like the bleeding. Now that could just be the tissue or lip that was bleeding but I worry about the tooth itself. For pain I'd start with 600mg IBU (depending on medical & allergies) with some Tylenol (acetaminophen) if it is mild to moderate pain. Go see your dentist

Go Immediately: If its broken and the tooth was bleeding then that may be a serious problem. Go see your dentist asap and get it treated.

It's necessary: If you broke off part of your tooth, it should be evaluated by a dentist to determine the cause and to have the tooth restored. Broken teeth should not be left unattended.

Important: Important that you see your Dentist to determine if tooth needs restoration and/or root canal treatment. Post traumatic tooth position, gum integrity, and bone integrity must be evaluated. A baseline should be established to be able to evaluate for future changes. Don't blow this off. Go get checked out.
