A member asked:

Which is generally more effective? pepcid or zantac (ranitidine). i heard zantac (ranitidine) you can build tolerance unlike pepcid. is this true?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Equivalent: ranitidine (Zantac) and famotidine (Pepcid) work very well for mild to moderate reflux and can be taken for up to 6 weeks before either starts to lose effect. Now for most people, 6 weeks is enough to allow the stomach to heal, and ongoing use is not needed. For those who require longer use of a daily reflux medication, omeprazole (Prilosec) or pantoprazole (Protonix) don't lose efficacy.
