Could be irregular: period, it could be a very early miscarriage. It is important to know if you were trying to get pregnant, or possibly could be. Abnormal of 'funny' periods can happen from time to time. The only way to tell if a very early pregnancy caused the spotting is by very sensitive blood tests done when you may not even know you are pregnant.
