Observe: how long was your hike? normally the swelling is in the legs and feet, but you could possibly get it in the hands from histamine release and vasodilation. just watch it for now. it should go away. make sure you are wrll hydrated and get a good night‘s rest

Be cautious...: No, it's not normal. If this happens on a regular basis or as consequence to a daily workout,then, you need to be evaluated. If this was a one time occurrence, then you might wait and see.
