Prevent ingrowing: Always trim the nail squarely so the corner will not dig into the surrounding skin. You may keep a small moistened pledget of cotton under the corner to prevent this. I would not like to cover the nail bed for prolonged periods unless it is with a normal nail. Allergies, trapped moisture and foot flora are encouraged by stagnant perspiration. Keep it dry.s

You can try taking : A supplement called biotin. I'm not sure it will help the toenail grow faster but it is supposed to be a good supplement to improve health of skin, hair or nails. I would avoid the fake nail only because usually to attach that fake nail you are likely using some sort of glue/chemical that is harsh to the skin/nail.

Waiting Game.: Rather difficult to say, without knowing the nature of the toe surgery performed. Surgery on your nail may have permanently stunted your nail, by design. It could also be temporarily stunted, in which case, only time will tell. Applying fake nails without knowing the details does not sound good. These details are often discussed before the surgery is performed. Ask your surgeon.
