Greatly: The 12 steps is a spiritual program, i recommend looking at the first 3 steps of aa or na they use the term higher power which for many means god, but not necessarily. Addiction robs people of their entire well being including spiritual. One of my favorite books on the topic regarding addiction and spirituality is "the spirituality of imperfection" by ernest kurtz.
