Is reading in the dark (lack of light) bad for our eyesight?

No but it will tire: them out more quickly. Reading in dim light will not permanently affect your eye sight but you will likely not be comfortable reading for as long a duration as you would in good lighting. The best way is to position a reading light so that it shines directly onto the page. Hope this helps ... stay well:)
