Health benefits: Salvia hispanica (Chia, Salva) is marketed for cardio-vascular health and weight loss. While the seeds are high in dietary fiber, Chia is not typically recommended to regulate bowel activity. From this perspective, there is no benefit from taking chia seeds in pregnancy.

Chia seeds: There are no specific recommendations for Chia seeds in pregnancy. It would be fine to eat a normal serving as part of a well balanced diet if this is a food that you enjoy. There is no scientifically valid reason to consume a large quantity of this or change or alter your diet to take in more than a normal serving.
