A member asked:

Should milk and other dairy products be avoided when someone has a cold and cough? does it thicken the mucus/phlegm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe: There is no current research to indicate this is true. Many people believe that consuming dairy can promote mucus production and subsequently worsen congestion. Regardless, if consuming dairy makes you feel like you have thicker mucus then avoid during the common cold.
