Absolutely: There is nothing more important than your health. Despite common belief, work, spouse, children, etc are not more important than your health (because without your good health, these other things are meaningless.) what good do you provide when laying in a hospital bed? Sorry for being blunt. So if you believe the above, you can then work towards good health when partnering with a physician.

Does not having insurance motivate someone to stay healthy?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Keegan Duchicela
Family Medicine 14 years experience
Yes, for some people: Being uninsured can motivate people to live healthier, but many studies show that on the whole, they are unhealthier than people with insurance. They're less likely to get preventative care and more likely to put off treatment for serious health problems. For all of the problems with our health system, being uninsured is bad for your health and your pocketbook if something unforeseen happens.

Surgery abroad?: Meaning out of the us or area covered by the insurance carrier? If this is the case it is more difficult for claims and payment.

Pays 80%: There are 3 types of medicare- part a= hospitalization, post acute care and durable medical equipment; part b= doctors visit(pays 80%) and part d= prescription coverage. Medicare a is paide for by social ssecurity benefits. B and d are additional monthly premiums. It is recomended that one buy a gap program to cover the 20% not covered by mc b. Aarp is an example; costs vary by program.
