Can be done.: You need to be work with a doctor who is familiar with your condition and medicines. What you say can be done, but calls for a "cross-over" of reducing one while increasing the other. But you need to verify that a higher dose of Lexapro (escitalopram) wouldn't be better, since Lexapro (escitalopram) generally avoids side effects that amitriptyline usually has.

Not mandatory: Although it will take 4-6 weeks to get out of your system , I still think it is a good idea to taper the Lexapro (escitalopram) over a two week period. Keep in mind that the amitryptiline may not be as effective for anxiety.
