what would cause a sensation of warmth on my back? it feels like i have my back pressed against a heater.

Nerve: If the sensation is only on one side an irritable/slightly inflamed superficial nerve could be causing this sensation. I assume there is no skin discoloration which rules out skin inflammation as a cause. If symptoms persist see your physician for evaluation.
