if a blood test reveals that something is borderline high, does that mean something is unhealthy about you? for example: mean platelet volume = 13.0.

Nope: Normal ranges for lab tests are calculated to represent the range within which a given result will be in 95% of healthy people. That means 5% of ALL lab results are outside the normal range even when nothing is wrong at all. So let's take a test panel like a complete blood count where there are 10+ tests bundled together: at least 1 will usually be "abnormal" or "borderline" for anyone.

Nothing: Normal range is given as 7.5-11.5 fL. Yours is just below normal but may be your normal. This finding in isolation is not a cause for concern.

No: No , you are fine. The other blood indices are fine , you can just repeat the platelet count again in 10- 15 days if you are anxious , otherwise nothing to be done.

Is there anything that can falsely elevate a monthly platelet blood test?

Dehydration: Inadequate fluid intake can cause 'volume contraction'. If the blood is relatively concentrated, the platelets (and all other cells counted on a CBC) will be artificially elevated. Beyond that cause, I don't know.

It means nothing: This varies tremendously from person to person for no reason whatever. Reference ranges are set so that several percent of healthies fall outside on either end. It's of considerable interest if you have certain other blood problems, and I'll assume you don't. Be thankful for good health.

Does retic count show how well platelets clump together? If not, what is the name of the blood test that does?

See below: Retic count tell about red cell production. There is more than one type of platelet aggregation test. You may consult this site for an introduction to the topic: https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/003669.htm Nutrition: For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
