A member asked:

Just curious as i reviewed relatively recent blood work flagged item as high: platelet mean volume 11.6 high ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, Mean platelet volume of 11.6 by itself is no cause for concern. A typical range of platelet volumes is 9.7–12.8 fL.
