Sure: Doctors can write prescriptions for any medicine or medical equipment. The issues are usually money and availability. If the prescribed item is not available (for any reason), then the patient cannot get it. The money issue is usually one of the insurance company only willing to pay for the least expensive form of the prescribed item, with the patient having to pay for other forms of the item.
