Micro-organism: It takes two items, kissing bugs and a microorganism, trypanosoma cruzi, that causes Chagas disease. The microorganism is not endemic in the US so you do not need to be concerned about getting tested. You may consult this site for more info on this topic. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/chagas-disease/basics/definition/CON-20030854

Chagas Disease: Although there are about 300,000 people in the US who have been infected with Chagas' Disease, almost all were infected in endemic countries before migrating here. If bitten by a Kissing bugs it would need to be infected with a protozoan called Trypanosoma Cruzi. It is not endemic in the US.
