Iron deficiency: Iron deficiency is often associated with higher than normal platelet count. It is not specific to internal bleeding.

See below: You are 55+ with anemia. First we need to know the cause of your anemia. If it is due to iron deficiency you must have a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. In regard to platelet count, it can be high in some cases of anemia particularly iron deficiency anemia, and indeed platelet count could be high if you have bleeding, tumor, we call it reactive thrombocytosis.
