Mam has had her 4th prolia injections today. also takes 2 calcichew d3 tablets daily. never had side effects. i'm worried now is it safe. she is 87?

It depends: Dear Bruce: I assume she is taking prolia for osteoporosis. This medication has been deemed safe for the treatment of osteoporosis by the FDA. However, it does have several potential side effects and depending on other medical conditions of your mother, some of these side effects may be more likely. While Prolia works: ...in a slightly different way from the older drugs to prevent bone loss, it appears to be just as effective & may start working sooner. All of these drugs, particularly Prolix, can lower blood calcium levels.Many people don't get enough Vitamin D in their diet to maintain bone health, so both Vitamin D & Calcium supplements are often given along with osteoporosis meds. Mam is just fine!
