Overproduce or under: ...Swallow? Most common illness to over produce would be rabies and gerd. Of course there are several anti-psychotic and street drugs that can cause hyper salivation: pilocarpine, ketamine, pcp. Under swallowing or poor clearance can be caused by infection, trauma and nerve damage, including stroke.

Saliva or mucus?: Saliva and mucus are different things. Mucus will be increased by viral or other infections such as sinus, allergies, too much saliva is usually not a problem, but it can be. There are some medications and some diseases that can cause this. The best way to find out what is going on in your mouth is to see your doctor.
