It depends.: Both medications are Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and similar in their mechanism of action. Ibuprofen usually goes to work more quickly, but meloxicam only needs to be taken once daily. In general, ibuprofen is more useful for acute pain like headaches and injuries, while meloxicam can be better for chronic problems like arthritis. Some people just respond better to one of them.
