A member asked:

Would a sensitive (5 days before your missed period) pregnancy test be effective 13-14 days past unprotected sex?

Maybe. Maybe not.: There is almost never a need to rush these things. Patience is a virtue to be nurtured. One can just do a home pregnancy test after 1 more week. A urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result if done correctly and read correctly, the week after missing a regular period or 3 weeks after having sex. (If done sooner, and the result is positive, it likely is a true positive.)

Understand the test: To turn positive, the fertilized egg must travel through the tube, implant in the womb, and form tissue that makes a hormone. That tissue hormone must reach a high enough concentration that it spills into your urine. If testing, the first morning pee is more concentrated. The test will not turn positive until the hormone produced is high enough. Early tests can be negative when truly pregnant.
