A member asked:

2 month old is bottle fed and gets a mix of breastmilk and formula.usually equal amounts of both throughout the day.his poop sometimes contains mucus?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rectal mucous glands: produce mucous to lubricate the distal rectum for passage of stool. If there is not blood in the poop and infant does not have explosive,, watery stools, then small amounts of mucous would not be worrisome. With a combination of breast milk and formula, some infants will still have soft, yellow frequent BM's and others will have infrequent stools, and more formed. Both are fine.
