A member asked:

A person with a cold sore kissed me on the cheek. should i wait a while before kissing my baby?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cold sores - HSV-1: Fortunately the answer is 'no'. If you've never had a cold sore erupt on your lips/mouth area, then I highly doubt you're a risk to your baby. Occasionally people may harbor the virus, and no obvious lip lesion is there (did your mom/dad have this?) A kiss has to be on the lips/nose/eye where there is a mucous membrane rather than intact skin. So no, you didn't get the virus from person who kissed
