W&W: tissue swelling is generally a sign of inflammation, but it can be anything from trauma (during chewing) to allergy (food, medicine) to infection (virus is most common). Almost all the cases I have seen clear up by themselves. Consider swish and swallow pediatric diphenhydramine elixir (OTC) in case its allergic. and, of course, followup with PCP if not improving or if y ou find permanent white.
