May need biopsy: Hashimotos disease is a form of thyroiditis. If a new nodule is noted, one can evaluate it by defining whether it is firm and not cystic on sonography, whether it is essentially solitary and is non functioning. If such holds true then one must get a fine needle core bx to define whether there is evidence of tumor requiring for surgical resection.
