BV? Yeast?: Vaginal "bacterial infection" with strong odor usually is bacterial vaginosis (BV), overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria. Vaginal treatments don't work as well as an antibiotic orally, usually metronidazole. However, itching usually is yeast, a different infection needing different treatment. Maybe you need treatment for both. Discuss with your doctor or get a second opinion.
