Yes it can: Depending on the age of a girl, the size of the tonsils, the duration this has been happening, this could be a semi-emergency. If she has normal ribs and chest, but is now sucking in between ribs, her airway may be obstructed (by tonsils or other flesh). A pediatric Sleep Clinic includes Ear-Nose-Throat doctors and can figure this out. If her oxygen is too low while sleeping, she needs help today.
