Many reasons: There are many possible reasons for having a painful lump. Common reasons are simple pimples/spots, infected skin cysts , infected hair follicles or an enlarged lymph gland which is fighting an infection. Some of these go away after a week or so and are not serious, but if it doesn't see a doctor to have it examined and get a proper diagnosis

Skin masses: Could be many possibilities from cysts to fatty tumors even a lymph node or worse a cancerous tumor. Monitor it. If it changes or bleeds it feels odd go see your doctor to be sure you are safe
