Alcohol can cause it: Generally, our bodies are regulated to keep blood sugar in a normal range despite long periods of fasting. We have enough sugar after a meal to last 8-12 hours, and then there is glycogen stored in the liver that can last much longer. Finally, we can produce glucose from the glycine in our muscles, but alcohol can inhibit that reaction. If this persists, limit or stop alcohol and see your PCP.
