Nephrectomy types: Some types and stages of kidney cancer can be treated with partial nephrectomy. In general these types are confined to upper or lower pole of the kidney, do not involve the hilum (central part with the blood vessels and ureter), and are usually <4cm in size. Each tumor is treated differently depending on these variables and whether or not there are metastasis present.

Here are some...: How much kidney tissue needs to be removed, totally or partially, chiefly depends on the size and location of the tumor, which contribute to if the mass could be successfully removed with renal tissue preservation. Of course, professional experience and proficiency with updated thought and skill are important for the care. So, ask the surgeon to see how and what he/she may thing.
