A member asked:

4yo. extreme high iga levels. chronic diarrhea. bright green stools for 1+yr. high wbc off and on. are iga levels indicative of anything or pointless?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

IgA is associated w: immunity of the mucosa surface, ie, nose, mouth and GI tract tract. A low IgA would indicate that a person has poor immunity and would be subject to recurrent respiratory or GI infections. An elevated level is reassuring that her immunity is responding to inflammation, but does not give an explanation for the recurrent diarrhea or elevated WBC.
