Following advice...: If one's regular doctor is advising a new antibiotic, that is usually the way to go. For strep throat infections, sometimes a doctor will retreat with the same antibiotic but at a higher dose, and sometimes the doctor will use a different antibiotic. If the doctor thinks there might be another treatable germ involved (different than that originally thought), he will usually change the antibiotic.
