HOW LONG???: The answer is impossible without the time-line. How long since the injury? A day? A week? A month? Sounds like you should leave it open, no bandage. Apply vaseline [Aquaphor] to keep it lubricated. Wash it daily. Avoid peroxide, iodine, alcohol, bacitracin, neosporin, etc.
