My left hip tingles like it has pins and needles. its not usually painful but it is annoying and irritating. this has been happening on and off for a few years. usually its just when i lay on my side, but lately its been happening more often.

Nerve compression: or inflammation ( neuritis ) has many diffenet casues. I would suggest a full exam and studies ( MRI ) of your lumbo-sacral spine, with x-rays.

Anatomy: You may well have problems with lateral femoral cutaneous nerve of thigh, causing issues with Meralgia paresthetica, and maybe caused by being overweight and/or wearing tight clothing about your waist. Other possibilities exist, so have your doctor assess.
