How can i get toxic shock from tampons?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

From bacterial toxin: Toxic shock is a rare complication associated with tampon use, but also with other conditions like surgical wounds. Only about half of toxic shock cases are from tampons. It is caused by a toxin produced by specific types of bacteria-- staph or strep. Prevention is helped by attention to not leaving a tampon in too long and not using super absorbent tampons.
