In some patients: Tegretol, generic name carbamazepine, has been linked to changes in behaviors and thoughts in a small percentage of people taking it. Reports of increased thoughts of suicide or depression can occur due to the drug’s effect on the brain. Patients should be monitored for new or worsening negative thoughts or behaviors when starting this drug.
