A member asked:

Hypothetically, how long can a uti go untreated before it causes more noticeable symptoms and/or turns into something more serious?

Maybe forever: Most UTIs don't lead to complications, such as spread of infection into the kidney (pyelonephritis, kidney abscess) or cause septicemia (blood poisoning). All are dangerous, sometimes fatal. They can happen any time from 1-2 days to a few years from start of UTI. If you suspect you have a UTI, you should see a doctor to confirm it and get proper treatment. Why risk a serious complication?
