Cold sores - HSV1: I'm afraid cold sores are quite infectious - and the real trouble is, your partner 'could be' infectious without an obvious breakout. We call this asymptomatic viral shedding. There's no real way to know if that's occurring since you would need PCR measurements to confirm (viruses cannot be seen!). You can keep your risks lower by avoiding kissing/other contact when there's an obvious breakout.
