A member asked:

What should i do about the stomach upset and diarrhea that metformin causes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dose related: The GI side effects of metformin are typically dose related, so taking a smaller dose may help. It should be taken with food to decrease side effects. Taking an extended release form such as Glumetza can also have fewer side effects. There are some people who cannot tolerate any dose of metformin regardless of the dose.
