Many things...: Heavy or long periods reduce number of red blood cells (which carry oxygen), causing heart to speed up to get them from the lungs to tissue to deposit oxygen. In a single day, red blood cells can travel 12,000 miles. Blood clot in lung must also be considered. As should fluid around the heart (pericardial effusion), anxiety, and deconditioning/obesity to name a few. Get medical evaluation ASAP.
