Orthopedist: Possible causes are tendonitis, ligamental strain, or internal derangement of cartilage. Arthritis or a spur are less likely. If symptoms persist or worsen consult a specialist in orthopedics.

Lateral meniscaltear: Could be a meniscus tear, the cushion between the thigh bone and shin bone. See a sports medicine trained orthopedic surgeon for evaluation.
