Too much: For a normal tooth infection Amoxicillin 875mg two times a day for a week is enough. Metronidazole would only be prescribed if you had a serious infection or if the amoxicillin was not helping. Remember antibiotics do not cure tooth infections. They are prescribed in conjunction with treatment, usually a root canal.
