Teething?: If the patient is 10 years old, he may be teething in the first/second molar region. To be sure, visit his dentist. Whatever OTC pain meds he takes for an ache or headache should help with the discomfort.

Dental exam: Once you have actual pain in that area, it is likely caused by a dental problem. Get to a dentist and have it examined so you can discuss treatment options. You can take over-the-counter pain pills such as Ibuprofen or acetaminophen but they only mask the pain rather than solve the underlying ptoblem

Canker Sore: is the most common oral lesions. Individual ulcers typically last 1-2 weeks. The condition is usually self-limiting. Try to keep adequate oral hygiene as possible. If concerned, see your dentist.

Determine cause: See your Dentist or an Oral Surgeon to determine the cause of the pain. For example taking pain Meds to block symptoms of an infection or a neoplasm does not cure the problem, only masks the symptoms as the problem spreads. Go get checked out.
