Seek care now: An abscess is an infection, and MUST be treated immediately or can adversely affect knee surgery. Ask your Dentist and your Orthopedic Surgeon to talk to each other to arrive at the best path of treatment for you. Do not put this off.

See an endodontist: for evaluation. Endodontists are dentists who have at least 2-3 years of advanced training in root canals. They are experts at diagnosing complications after root canal treatment and use advanced special equipment to treat patients with systemic issues efficiently and comfortably.

2 nd opinion: If you were not treated by an endodontist, I would schedule an appointment for consultation and evaluation. It is important to determine why the abscess is not healing or developed. Endodontists have 3 dimensional imaging to help with diagnosis. You may have a fractured tooth. Major dental treatment is an individual determination. An untreated infectionmore of an issue.
