The Why of White: Yes, sounds like one of a few possible "viral" infections in the mouth. The skin in the mouth can turn white when it is swollen and/or infected. If Herpes is suspected and it's been just a few days since it started, then a medication may help. After that, stick to bland foods, not too salty or spicy or with any citrus and rinse with dillute salt water. Motrin will help too. And keep brushing!!!

Aphthous Ulcers?: It might be due to aphthous ulcers, which might happen anywhere inside the mouth. Cause is not well known but it might be caused by trauma (biting of the lips or the gum), poor mouth hygiene, and even mental stress. Usually it gets better in 5-6 days Try to avoid touching it with food (especially acidic or salty one) as it gives this painful feeling.

Aphthous ulcers: These sound like aphthous ulcers which can be a common occurrence with viral infections. They usually resolve on their own as the viral symptoms settle down. Gargling your mouth with salt water or applying topical gels to the ulcers may relieve the pain. You can obtain these from your nearest pharmacy or see a doctor for specific creams such as Oracort which is a prescription medication.
