A member asked:

Do pharmaceutical companies make an alternative to percocet, such as mixing the pain medication with ibuprofen instead of tylenol (acetaminophen) to save the liver?

Ibu could be worse: Acetaminophen, when taken at appropriate doses in a adult (no more than 3000mg in 24 hours) has fewer potential adverse effects than ibuprofen and is the preferred pain medication even in patients with liver cirrhosis (though typically capped at 2000mg daily in these cases). Over-dosing can indeed cause liver damage, but prolonged use at normal doses is safe in otherwise healthy adults.

Non tylenol (acetaminophen) pain med: There are medications like Opana, tramadol, nucynta, MS contin,Dilaudid that are just the opioids and then you can take the ibuprofen separately . Percodan has aspirin instead of tylenol (acetaminophen). .
